The second part of the Palaces of the Comune is Palazzo dei Priori, a Magistrature documented in Assisi since 1320. In 1337 the Priori delle porte (Priors of the gates) purchased a house in the main square from the Florentine company “dei Bardi”, where they built a vault that leaned on the Palazzo del Popolo and crossed over the street going to Porta Moiano (Moiano gate). The building was restored in a large part at the time of Sisto IV Della Rovere (1471-1484). It consisted of a wide underground space at the level of the Roman pavement, a loggia on the ground floor which housed the Monte di Pietà founded in 1468, and an upper floor for the residence of the Priors.
